WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW

Jeannie is back at Kaan & Associates, and the team is back to their old tricks. Marty’s plan for world domination is still in full effect, but to do it he needs to continue bringing in new business and adding smaller firms to his budding empire.

The team is on the road again at Everyshirt, a hyper-successful consumer goods company led by an eccentric founder and part-time spiritual guru, Sean (played by John Cho). Marty’s friend Yurgen (played by Malcolm Jamal Warner) is Everyshirt’s COO, and petrified that the company is headed for complete destruction. Sean is instituting holacracy: A management style that eliminates organizational hierarchy and looks to improve efficiency.

Marty is unconvinced, so Sean invites him to a gathering where things get weird quickly after everyone drinks an unnamed liquid.

The gathering quickly spirals out of control and leads the team down an aggressive path of inebriation, exposing a lot of their own personal issues and struggles. It gets very real.

At the height of the festivities, Marty and Sean have a psychedelic fight between their spirit animals, (a lion and cobra, respectively). It’s something you have to see to really understand:

The winner in this metaphysical fight is unclear, but Marty and Sean come to an agreement, which means Marty gets Everyshirt’s business.

After they return to LA, Marty finally admits to Jeannie that he can’t run his firm without her, and she acknowledges this truth. Their working relationship seems to be growing. This might leave room for romance, but you can’t really tell (yet).

LINES THAT MADE US LOSE OUR CHILL:

“You’re the guy who flies around and tells people richer than you, how to get richer” – Donald

“Doug needs to STFU while I mind-meld with Marty” – Sean

Friends with Money

Marty is successful by most conventional standards. Donald and Yurgen have money — lots of it — and they’re poised to keep getting more. Donald retired early and Yurgen is still looking for his big payout, but they are both a part of Marty’s circle of influence. If your network determines your net worth, then Marty’s looks great and shows no signs of slowing down.

Nerd Love

Doug and Tess are cute, but also pretty reflective of ourselves. We all have the quirky things we do; stuff that takes place outside the office that people wouldn’t normally associate with us. The sides of ourselves that we hide or edit are often the most interesting, and bring us closer to the people we might not expect.
