Whoopi Goldberg May Have Very Well Saved Joy Behar From A Trip To County Jail
Meghan tried it.
Whoopi Goldberg may have saved Meghan McCain from a showdown of epic proportions on The View following a snide comment she made to co-host Joy Behar.
Heated moments during political segments on the talk show are a rather common occurrence, but when talking about the resignation of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Monday, things were nearly set ablaze.
The ladies of the show began discussing their opinions about border control and what Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan would possibly do to combat the growing issues. McAleenan will temporarily take on Nielsen's role if Congress approves, CNN reports.
In conversation about President Trump's promised U.S.-Mexico border wall, which has remained unfunded and presents a bleak reality, McCain was seen bucking up on Behar.
"I’m from a border state and immigration is always ground zero for where these conversations are happening,” McCain said, speaking about her Arizona home. “[For] many friends of mine, this is the number one and only issue."
"If we sit here and act like there is not a crisis, that it’s just crazy people living in border states that think that there’s a crisis, that is a winning ticket for Trump going forward," she continued.
While waiting for McCain to finish her routine pro-Trump tirade, Behar added that the answer isn't in demonizing those in need, but helping them.
“This guy coming in [McAleenan] wants to help those countries,” Behar said. “That’s the way to solve the problem. Keep them happy, give them a house, give them food. Help them, help their children.”
“Give a Nicaraguan a house?” McCain scoffed, cutting off Behar. “Well we’ve had a bunch of liberal guests who don’t want to send aid at all.”
“Hold on," Behar interrupted. "I listened to you, just let me finish."
“Yeah, well it’s part of your job to listen to me. Just saying," McCain retorted.
As shock was heard around the studio, co-host Whoopi Goldberg stepped in before another word could be uttered by either party.
"Here’s what’s not gonna happen today — we’re not gonna do this,” the 63-year-old said. “Everybody gets a conversation piece, everybody gets to say their peace, and we don’t need to comment if we don’t like what we’re hearing. Just let folks talk.”
Goldberg gave the soapbox to Behar who, while still in a stunned state, said she forgot the point she intended to make.
While McCain and Behar often disagree, it's been reported the disrespect by McCain is beginning to cause a riff on the show.
Online, viewers noted their reactions to the exchange, and it wasn't lost on anyone that Behar was practicing a great deal of restraint.
I’ve been watching the view, for years Meghan McCain is making it an unpleasant show to watch. she’s bringing a fox tabloid/Jerry Springer, mentality like atmosphere to the show. I don’t watch Jerry Springer. I have to say good bye to the show until she is gone. #THEVIEW.— CJ (@curtinchitwn) April 8, 2019
Damn, Mehgan went too far. That was so disrespectful and embarrassing to Joy. Very unprofessional. Why must you be so nasty when someone disagrees with you. Grow up and stop thinking you're better than everyone else. #TheView— Lourdes Rivera🇵🇷 (@Lrivera45) April 8, 2019
Meghan McCain needs a reality check. Who are you to tell 20 year old veteran Joy it’s her job to listen to you. Sit down, shut up, and have some respect for the one who made it possible for you to sit in that seat your sitting in #TheView pic.twitter.com/lMdVvpTlhU— Trey Tyler (@Its_TreyTyler) April 8, 2019
How does Joy hold back and not hit Meghan in the face. She is so rude. #theview— Amela (@amela_ame) April 8, 2019
#theview Megan’s disrespect towards coworkers isn’t good for your show. Makes viewers uncomfortable. She’s rude, brash and just a flat out a spoiled brat. There’s better out there.— susanna (@olesusanna7785) April 8, 2019
