Wisconsin State Senator Lena Taylor has been charged with disorderly conduct following an alleged altercation involving insufficient funds and a racial slur, Atlanta Black Star reports.

According to Taylor's attorney, Vince Bobot, Taylor visited a Milwaukee Wells Fargo bank and “brought a check there that was given to her by a tenant and it was for a lot of delinquent rent. And Lena had gone there just to see if the check was still good.”

Things went awry when the bank teller informed Taylor that her $830.00 check could not be cashed due to insufficient funds.

After receiving the news, Taylor allegedly called the bank teller a "house n*gger," according to Milwaukee police who viewed security footage of the incident.

Taylor was then cited with disorderly conduct, which carries a maximum fine of $500.

“For privacy and confidentiality reasons, we do not discuss information about team members or customers. We are cooperating with Milwaukee law enforcement on their investigation,” said the bank's spokesperson.

“I mean she did intimate to me that they’re trying to accuse her of a racial slur. But I don’t want to get into that right now. You know, it’s highly unusual for it to go to the press like this,” Bobot told CBS 58 News. Bobot and Taylor have requested a meeting with the Milwaukee city attorney.

Neither Taylor nor the Milwaukee Police Department have made an official statement on the incident.
