nullIt’s probably a dream of many actors and filmmakers who take to popular video sharing platforms like YouTube to create content that (hopefully) goes viral, as they build an audience over time, and eventually have enough leverage to ink deals with TV networks that will see their online content make the leap from the web to television.

Issa Rae is a wonderful example of that, with her successful "Awkward Black Girl" series which is currently set up at HBO, with a pilot order.

And last fall, MTV picked up “Todrick,” starring talented vocalist, actor, director, choreographer and popular You Tube star Todrick Hall – a series that will invite viewers into his creative factory to watch his team collaborate on his weekly videos as they all pursue their dreams of performing and entertaining, in what will be a weekly MTV docu-series.

Hall has been a YouTube star for a few years now, starting way back in 2008 with his first video. Since then, his YouTube channel library has grown to about 100 videos, and a subscriber base that’s now just over 1.6 million (a figure which a lot of TV shows can’t even claim to be watching them weekly). So, clearly, Hall made for an attractive "pick-up" for MTV.

The network’s description of the show: "Unwilling to wait for Hollywood to make them stars, Todrick and his faithful crew write, choreograph, style, and direct full-scale productions weekly – all while balancing side jobs to pay the bills – to try to make their dreams come true on their own terms."

Visit Todrick’s YouTube channel to check out all the creative music videos he’s made over the years, and see what his fans (and MTV) have been raving about.

The series is produced by Brian Graden Media, executive produced by Scooter Braun, Todrick Hall and Danny Rose. Jonathan Mussman is executive in charge at MTV.

The network ordered 8 episodes, which will be 30-minutes each.

MTV has released the first full episode of "Todrick" which is embedded below:
