A lot can change in 6 months. In November 2017, 19-year-old Kylan Gassaway left home for bootcamp, ready to undergo the Marine Corps' intensive training.

After sustaining an injury, Gassaway was sent home recently. His brother G'ahri decided to catch him up on everything that had happened in the "real world" while he was away.

"He mainly listens to underground hip hop, so even though some of those songs were out before he went away, he’s still never heard them," G'ahri told Buzzfeed News.

Kylan was not feeling most of his brother's selections, but we do know one thing: he is into Cardi B!

He was also feeling the new tracks from Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Offset and Casanova. 

Although Kylan wasn't feeling some of the more popular mumble rappers, he said he is happy about the direction his beloved genre has taken in the past few months.

"I feel like hip hop is in a great place because of how popular and how much of variety is in music," he said.
