Chance the Rapper is more than an independent musician; he is also a rising media mogul.
The rapper, known almost as much for his philanthropy as his music, has announced he bought local news outlet the Chicagoist in one of four of his latest singles, “I Might Need Security,” per The Root.
Dropped Wednesday, July 18, the announcement came via a lyric. “I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist b***hes out of business,” he said.

Anyone familiar with the local outlet knows the Chicagoist prides itself with premier coverage of the city.
The Gothamist reports the deal was made earlier this year when Chance purchased the outlet after WNYC acquired it from billionaire Joe Ricketts, who shuttered the site along with DNAInfo and the Gothamist.
“We are delighted that the Chicagoist assets are finding a new home in the hands of a proud Chicagoan,” Laura Walker, president and CEO of New York Public Radio, said in a statement. “WNYC has a strong commitment to local journalism and building community, and we are pleased that these assets will be used to support local coverage in the great city of Chicago.”
With the rapper's engagement to his girlfriend and a new album on the way, it looks like 2018 will be another year full of wins for the mogul.
