We knew it! We always knew deep down in the depths of our spirits that Barney was black. In a recent interview with Business Insider, David Joyner finally came out as the man behind the cultural phenomenon. The 53-year-old software analyst, turned live mannequin, turned beloved purple dinosaur, inhabited the beloved character from 1991 to 2001.

The story of how David came to be Barney is nothing short of fascinating! "When I was a kid, I wanted to be on television so bad. I would stand in front of the television and basically lip sync," he said. When it comes to the mechanics of operating within such a large costume, it wasn't always easy. "Being inside this costume is pretty cool. Now Barney is about 70 pounds, and it can get over 120 degrees inside. So inside you're sweating profusely. It's a t-rex, so you're basically just up to your elbows in being able to move. And then also, Barney's feet were huge. Now I did have some sneakers inside that were glued to the bottom of the feet." said David.
You know when Black Twitter got the news, all bets were off.

Thanks for our childhood, David.
Thank you for everything, David Joyner – #Barney was one of the few of my kids' shows I could bear to watch. Sweet show.
