Jamie Foxx is telling his harrowing health journey in his own words in the trailer for his upcoming Netflix comedy special, What Had Happened Was…

As previously reported, the Back in Action star created a stand-up special all about his shocking 2023 hospitalization, which included him waking up 20 days later without recollection of what happened to him.

However, as he told the African American Film Critics Association, he promised that he would tell everyone what happened to him as long as he could “do it in a funny way.”

He repeated those sentiments in the trailer, telling the audience, “If I can stay funny, I can stay alive.” He also utilized the special to give back to his fans who supported him throughout his health journey.

“Jamie expresses deep gratitude to those who prayed and supported his recovery, turning this performance into a touching thank you to his fans,” according to Netflix. “This comedy event is a celebration of resilience, humor, and the power of community, reminding us all of the healing power of laughter.”

The special is directed by Hamish Hamilton and executive produced by Hamilton, Foxx, Marcus King, Datari Turner, James Longman, Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan. Foxxhole Productions and Done + Dusted also produce.
