People have heard rumors and read the speculation, but now we’ll get to hear what really happened to Jamie Foxx from Foxx himself.
Foxx will executive produce and star in a new Netflix comedy special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, in which he will talk about his April 2023 medical scare that landed him in an Atlanta hospital. The special is set for a Dec. 10 release.
Officially, Foxx has given no cause to his sudden illness as of yet, but he did give audiences some insight during his three performances of his special in Atlanta during early October.
Variety reports that during the special, Foxx “reportedly discussed the outpouring of well-wishes (and online rumors) surrounding his hospitalization.”
Foxx has continued to remind people of his illness in the months leading up to this special, in which he outlined that he started out having a bad headache and woke up in the hospital 20 days later with no recollection of what could have happened. But, as he told the African American Film Critics Association, Foxx said that he would tell the world what happened to him but that he would “do it in a funny way.”
In the teaser for the special, Foxx said he relied on his humor to stay alive.
“I said, ‘If I can stay funny, I could stay alive,'” he said in the trailer.
