First Lady Michelle Obama is set to make a special appearance on the season finale of NBC’s comedy Parks and Recreation, which is set for Thursday, April 24 (8-9 p.m. ET).
Mrs. Obama’s scene in the episode titled “Moving Up” was filmed in late February in Miami, where she celebrated investments in healthier out-of-school programs as part of her “Let’s Move” initiative, dedicated to solving the challenge of childhood obesity.
The First Lady’s appearance is not the first time real-world politics have interwoven with the Parks and Recreation storyline. National figures who have appeared on the series include Vice President Joe Biden, Arizona Sen. John McCain, California Sen. Barbara Boxer and former Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe.
Parks and Recreation, which airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, centers on Leslie Knope, a proud civil servant in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Ind. The series stars Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aziz Ansari, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Retta and Jim O’Heir.
“Let’s Move!” is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the First Lady, dedicated to solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and can live up to their potential.
