HBO has announced that the cable TV network is developing a documentary on the life of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, with Mandalay Sports Media and Iconomy Multi-Media & Entertainment participating.

Ron Yassen (Fight Camp 360: Fedor vs. Rogers) will direct the feature documentary, which will follow the former L.A. Laker through his long career in the NBA – his many controversial and landmark moments.

Executive producer Mike Tollin adds that the film will “reveal the complexity and genius of Kareem both on and off the court. By his own admission, Abdul-Jabbar has had a complicated and occasionally hostile relationship with the media. This is a unique opportunity to tell all sides of his story.

It’ll be produced by Deborah Morales.

Production began this week in Los Angeles, for an early 2015 premiere on HBO.
