Prince Harry and Meghan Markle honored Muhlaysia Booker in an Instagram post commemorating Pride Month.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex included the slain transwoman in a collage published on their joint Instagram account. Booker’s portrait is on the top right corner.
“Continuing with our tradition to rotate the accounts we follow based on causes and social issues that matter to us: For the month of June we 'proudly' shine a light on PRIDE,” the couple wrote.
“This month we pay tribute to the accounts supporting the LGBTQ+ community – those young and old, their families and friends, accounts that reflect on the past and are hopeful for a deservedly more inclusive future.”
The image the royal couple used was created by artist and photographer Ruben Guadalupe Marquez.
Booker was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head on May 18, as Blavity previously reported. The 23-year-old died a few weeks after she was ambushed by Edward Thomas, who was reportedly paid $200 to beat her, according to Star- Telegram.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Thomas was ordered back to jail on May 20 after his ankle monitor outed him for being at unauthorized places over a dozen times, according to The Dallas Morning News. Thomas is not a suspect in Booker’s death.
Booker’s death is currently under investigation and no one has been arrested or named a person of interest in the case.
