The tragic killing of Lesandro Guzman-Feliz shook the Bronx, with many upset and disturbed by such a public and tragic act of senseless violence. The 15-year-old was stabbed and killed back in June. It was later discovered the gang members who killed him had assassinated the wrong person.
Unfortunately, we now must report on another similar story. In Brooklyn, New York, another case of mistaken identity has led to the death of 18-year-old Genesis Wilson, also known as "Sega" due to his love of video games.
On May 25, Genesis was spending the night at his friend's house after a evening of playing games when three alleged gang members entered the home through the backyard and fired gunshots through the window, reports PIX 11.
Those shots hit Genesis as he scrolled through his phone while in bed.
“He was my everything,” Genesis' mother, Paula Aumack, told the New York Daily News. “I would never, ever wish this pain on anyone.”
A police source confirmed Genesis was not the intended target, and the gang members were actually after a friend of his. The gang had an ongoing dispute with that young man.
Aumack has been posting flyers all over Brooklyn urging for anyone with pertinent information to come forward.
“I absolutely want justice for my son. It’s not fair that it’s taken this long,” she said.
After Genesis' funeral, his girlfriend of two years, Malezia Davis, said she saw a post that read, "Glad that he dead," on Facebook.
NBC New York confirmed police have released surveillance video footage showing three men walking into Genesis' friend's house. The police would like to talk to the three men as they believe they were involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made at the time of this article's posting.
“My heart is already broken,” said Aumack. “This broke me in the worst way because it had nothing to do with him, and they know it had nothing to do with him… Genesis doesn’t get involved with stuff like that.”
Aumack asks that anyone with any information about the three men suspected of murdering her son visit the New York Crime Stoppers website to anonymously share that information with the authorities.
