Rapper Nicki Minaj’s support for MAGA and its agenda has been defended by many of her fans, even as she faces criticism for spreading false narratives and promoting a right-wing agenda. Now, Kamala Harris has warned Minaj about promoting alternative facts, and the former vice president is receiving flak from Minaj’s “Barbz” as a result.

Harris calls out misinformation and challenges Minaj on facts

Harris commented on Minaj during an appearance on the Now You Know with Knowa De Baraso podcast, where she discussed her vice presidency and presidential campaign, the tour for her book 107 Days, and the launching of Headquarters as a tool to tackle misinformation.

“I think there are many people who are doing it intentionally, and I think there are others who are doing it unintentionally,” Harris mentioned about the flood of incorrect information in politics. She also addressed the state of Black America, including calling out President Donald Trump for sharing racist images of former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.

When De Baraso asked, “So how do you feel about Nicki Minaj’s falling victim to misinformation?”

Harris responded, “One of the things about mis- and disinformation is, we have to, when we disagree with someone, take that into account. And understanding that we may just not be working with the same information, and so let’s do what we can to make sure that we are sharing accurate information with as many people as possible, to do what we can to make sure that we are challenging people about what they think the facts are. And making sure we’re on the same page about the fact that two plus two will always equal four. And I think that’s how we need to handle a lot of this.”

Minaj supporters defend rapper’s political stances as Harris eyes next political steps

Although Harris didn’t disparage Minaj directly in her comments, many took what she said as a shot at the rap star, and many Barbz went after the former vice president for her remarks.

“At least Nicki can speak a full sentence without creating a word salad,” one Minaj fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Kamala, we like her better than we’ll ever like you because she has courage, faith and LOYALTY.”

“Kamala Harris trying to insult @NICKIMINAJ by questioning her intelligence only exposes Kamala’s own weakness,” another commenter said with a Minaj GIF, accusing Harris of practicing “elitism” in her criticism of Minaj and adding, “It’s the same condescension that keeps costing you elections, Kamala.”

The interview with Harris and her remarks about Minaj come as the rapper continues to support Trump’s agenda and the former vice president considers her next steps.

As Blavity reported, Minaj began her public support for the president and his MAGA movement by pushing the misleading claims about Christian persecution in Nigeria, which eventually led to the Trump administration bombing terrorist targets in the country. Minaj has since attached herself to several MAGA figures and issues, even appearing with Trump at an event, while also going after Trump’s political rivals.

Harris, meanwhile, has ruled out running for governor of California, the state in which she served as attorney general and later represented in the U.S. Senate. During her podcast appearance, while discussing her decision not to run for governor, Harris said, “It’s not my calling.” She also said, “I haven’t decided,” when asked about a 2028 presidential run, while emphasizing that she’s currently focused on the 2026 midterm elections.

As the 2026 races heat up, Harris will likely be a major voice within the Democratic Party, pushing its candidates and issues. Minaj, meanwhile, seems poised to continue to promote Trump and his agenda. Now that Harris has criticized the president and Minaj for their roles in spreading false information, we’ll see if Minaj will follow her fans’ lead and have words of her own for the former vice president.
