The social media account for Kamala Harris‘ 2024 presidential campaign is making a return with a new purpose. The former vice president is now teaming with a major progressive organization to relaunch the Harris campaign’s social media presence as a platform to highlight a new crop of up-and-coming leaders.

Harris announces Headquarters launch to highlight new leaders

The social media account previously known as Kamala HQ relaunched this week under the new name Headquarters. Harris posted a video on the X, formerly Twitter, account Thursday morning.

“Madam Vice President, what’s going on with Kamala HQ?” an off-camera voice asks at the beginning of the video.

“Kamala HQ is turning into Headquarters, and it’s where you can go online to get basically the latest of what’s going on, and also to meet and revisit with some of our great and courageous leaders, be they elected leaders, community leaders, civil leaders, faith leaders, young leaders,” Harris explained of the relaunch.

The relaunch of the rebranded Headquarters account is a collaboration between Harris and the progressive organization People for the American Way in a partnership intended “to build an effort to mobilize pro-justice, pro-fairness, pro-democracy young people against far-right extremism,” as stated in a news release announcing the joint venture. As explained in the announcement, “Harris will be the Chair Emerita of Headquarters,” and while “she will not maintain editorial oversight of the project,” a number of her campaign’s key figures will join Headquarters as staff members or advisors. Headquarters has assumed control of the Harris accounts on X and TikTok, with a combined following of over 6 million people, and plans to launch accounts on platforms such as YouTube and Substack.

Harris is working to counter conservative organizing as she weighs her political options

The collaboration is an attempt by the former Harris campaign and People For the American Way to mobilize the political left and counteract right-wing organizing. In recent years, conservatives have enjoyed electoral and policy success in part through organizing efforts like Turning Point USA and policy playbooks like Project 2025. As People For the American Way noted in the release, “Conservatives build permanent organizing infrastructure. Progressives have historically built machines that dismantle after Election Day.”

People For the American Way President Svante Myrick stated the organization is” thrilled to take the baton to build KamalaHQ into a youth mobilization organization that can withstand the test of time.”

The move represents the latest way in which Harris has remained politically relevant after leaving the White House and as she continues the tour for her memoir, 107 Days, which details her whirlwind 2024 presidential campaign. Since running for president, Harris hasn’t pursued other elected office, declining to run to replace Gavin Newsom as governor of California. However, she hasn’t ruled out another presidential run or other direct political involvement. The revival of her campaign social media account, which had been inactive since the 2024 election, until posting a tease on Wednesday about an upcoming announcement, briefly fed into speculation that Harris could be launching another presidential run.

Whether Harris ultimately seeks the presidency again remains to be seen. For now, though, she is using the online infrastructure from her last campaign to highlight other potential rising figures on the left. As the 2026 midterm elections approach, the rebranded Headquarters now has the opportunity to use a built-in audience of millions of followers to bring attention to this new crop of leaders.
