At her Monday night show in Grand Rapids, Michigan, R&B singer, Kehlani, had a raw and real moment with her audience, in which she made an alarming announcement about her well-being.

Kehlani later clarified (via an Instagram post, that she has since deleted) that stopping her show was solely for physical reasons, and not for anything mental health related. Still, it is both an important and commendable move to halt an entire show in front of your biggest fans. This exemplifies the importance of caring for yourself.
With knowledge of her battle with depression and attempted suicide, the Grammy-nominated songstress received tons of love and support from her devoted fans. Kehlani's show cancellation was an act of the type of selfishness we should all partake in when times get rough.
Our dreams and our goals cannot come to fruition without us. We are the centerpiece of our visions and without us performing at and being our best selves, we lose everything we've worked hard for. Such a move contributes to the ongoing conversation about health and wellness: it matters.
There are roughly 350 million people who deal with depression. That's five percent of the global population, with women being more likely to face depression than men. Depression is also the leading cause of disability worldwide, and at its worst, can lead to suicide.
We know of many famous names who have lost their lives battling depression or other issues, as well as those who've overcome it or still deal with it to this day. Stars such as Kid Cudi, Jennifer Lewis and Fantasia Barrino have all shared their stories in hopes to add a bright perspective to an otherwise dark and touchy subject.
In order to be of sound body, you must first be of sound mind. It's very lonesome dealing with any mental health issue, but it doesn't have to be. Please keep in mind the many resources available to you from family and friends, to counselors and hotlines. The most important message here is to always recognize your importance, and put yourself first.
We wish Kehlani the absolute best and a speedy recovery, so that she can soon return to the stage and deliver like she always does.
