One of the scenes in Wesley Snipes and Kevin Hart‘s new Netflix film True Story actually came from Hart’s own experiences with racism.

Rolling Out reports that in a scene featuring Hart’s character Kid, also a world-famous comedian, a white fan uses the N-word, believing that Kid would be okay with it. In an interview with Insider, Hart said that he has had fans not know where to draw the line, including when it comes to saying the N-word in his presence.

“People get so comfortable with where they feel they can be with you because of what you do. And sometimes that line is just ignored. There is no boundary, and you have to find yourself being patient and chill, so you don’t come off like an a–hole,” he said. “You have to be real cool [about] how to handle things and handle people because things can switch on you. So you find yourself always taking the higher road.”

He said that True Story will show audiences that fame isn’t always as amazing as it’s portrayed, particularly when it comes to dealing with the public.

“It’s making people aware they are wrong, but doing it in the most professional way. And that’s what this scene was,” he said. “It was a scene that showed Kid having control, but that’s Kevin in a small way, too.”
