Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving may be one of the NBA's best ball handlers, but, for a time, he wasn't so sure the Earth is a spherical object.

Irving questioned the roundness of the planet in a New York Times interview from earlier this year. “Can you openly admit that you know the Earth is constitutionally round?” he challenged. “Like, you know that for sure? Like, I don’t know.”

The baller also made spoke out about his flat Earth beliefs on a podcast in February; his thoughts on the shape of the Earth even became a major story at All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.

After defending his flat Earth stance, Irving has come out and apologized for his beliefs while speaking at the Forbes’ Under 30 Summit in Boston on Monday, according to the Associated Press.

“At the time, I was like huge into conspiracies. Everybody’s been there,” he said by way of explanation.

An enthusiastic crowd laughed at his admission. The Uncle Drew star told the audience he realized that some things are just better unsaid.

“Even if you believe in that, don’t come out and say that stuff. That’s for intimate conversations,” said the NBA star. “I’m actually a smart a*s individual. It’s not like I was just coming out and saying [the Earth is flat] … I just didn’t realize the effects of saying that.”

Those effects were apparently damaging to young minds. Science teachers came for Irving's wig for his statements.

"To all the science teachers, everybody coming up to me like, ‘You know I’ve got to reteach my whole curriculum?’ I’m sorry,” he said amid more laughter. “I apologize. I apologize.”
