Loretta Devine is heading to the TV Land this week for a 2-episode arc in its freshman half-hour comedy series, The Soul Man.
Cedric the Entertainer stars in the original scripted sit-com, which is a spinoff of the network's Hot in Cleveland.
He stars as Rev. Boyce "The Voice" Ballantine, a former R & B singer turned minister, who takes over his father's church.
In the series Niecy Nash plays his wife, Jazz Raycole plays his daughter Lyric, John Beasley as Boyce’s father, Barton, and Wesley Jonathan as his brother, Stamps.
In her 2-episode arc, Loretta Devine will play Della, the mother of Cedric the Entertainer's Reverend Boyce.
The storyline will go as follows (according to TV Guide):
She is called to St. Louis when her estranged husband Barton (John Beasley) decides he wants to move to Florida permanently after visiting his brother there. Stamps (Wesley Jonathan) will enlist Della's help in keeping his father in check.
Devine's first episode will air this Wednesday at 10/9c on TV Land.
