The city of Houston honored Meek Mill in a major way during a tour stop for his Motivation Tour. According to Complex, February 24 was official proclaimed "Meek Mill Day," an honor he shared via Instagram on Sunday.

"Life is a roller coaster!#themotivationtour Houston gave me a meek mill day!" he captioned the post.

The proclamation is reportedly a celebration of his advocacy work throughout the city.

The Houston Chronicle reported Mill visited Houston City Hall to speak with a group which included 20 boys from the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. In conjunction with Reading With A Rapper (RWAR) and My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Houston, the 31-year-old discussed life lessons among the at-risk youth.

“I’ve got a lot of friends in the grave. I’m 31 years old. It’s not good to say, but it’s a blessing to have made it to this age,” Mill, who had performed Saturday night at the Revention Music Center, said. “I didn’t even think I’d make it to this age when I was 20.”

The Philadelphia rapper was sentenced to prison in 2017 following a probation violation. Mill celebrated his freedom when he was released last April and has since advocated for reform in the criminal justice system.

“If you want to go to the penitentiary and live that life, do that," he continued. "But if you want to be somebody and you don’t want to fall victim to that — because we’ve got millions of people who look like us that have done that already — then listen to the voice and make the right choices at the right time."
