Notorious jewel thief Doris Payne was been released from a DeKalb County jail in Decatur, Georgia late last week.

You may remember Payne from the Netflix documentary, The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne or from when we reported how the 86-year-old was arrested in Atlanta this July for violating her probation.

Payne has had an illustrious and successful career as a master jewelry thief.

Officials believe that Payne's 60 years career of crime spans the globe. She was first caught in 1952. After getting out of prison, she continued her spree, getting caught in the 1970s while stealing a $500,000 diamond ring.

According to CBS News, in her most recent case, a judge ruled that there wasn't enough evidence to keep Payne in custody.

"I never lied and said I didn't have it, I'm saying there was no intent," Payne told CBS as she walked free. What landed her in prison this time are allegations that she tried to make off with $86 worth of merchandise at her local Walmart.

That kerfuffle came after Payne pled guilty in March to a felony for stealing two diamond necklaces priced at $2,000 from a department store last December.

Drew Findline, Payne's lawyer, said that the judge also ended Payne's probation in the felony case.

However, Payne is still in hot water, as she faces charges of the Walmart shoplifting.

Only time will tell if the 86-year-old jewel thief will again have to serve time again for her crimes.
