A San Antonio Police Department officer was terminated for reportedly verbally abusing and using racial slurs while arresting a Black mall shopper.
Footage captured from Officer Tim Garcia's body cam captured him using the slur while arresting a 24-year-old Black man on July 14, 2018.
The San Antonio Current reports the victim, Dewaxne Robinson, was detained by River Center Mall security guards for allegedly disturbing other shoppers.
Robinson was reportedly being "aggressive and confrontational with mall patrons as they were walking by."
He also threatened others as they passed.
Garcia and his partner were called on to respond to the matter. Body cam video showed Robinson sitting quietly while police and security surrounded him.
Local news outlet KSAT reports the victim was asked to leave and he willingly tried to vacate the property but security guards reportedly continued to harass him.
"My question to you is, ‘If they tell you to leave the mall, are you going to leave the mall?’" Garcia said in the video. "If they tell you they don't want you here and you have to leave, then you have to leave. If you don't leave, then you're breaking the law, but you're not breaking the law by being here. But if they tell you to leave and you don't leave, then you're breaking the law, and that's when I get involved."

Garcia demanded the man hand over his I.D. There was some hesitation at first but Robinson handed it over while asking what he did wrong.
Then, the two officers grabbed Robinson and placed him in handcuffs. This prompted a heated exchange between the 24-year-old and Garcia.
"You know what's bulls**t?" Garcia can be heard saying in the video. "The way you were raised is bulls**t."
Robinson told the two arresting officers his arm was twisted, but they ignored his pleas. KSAT reports Robinson repeatedly called Garcia a "n***a," to which Garcia began using the slur mockingly.
"N***a? Do I look like your n***a? Say it right. Put an 'r' at the end. If you're going to say it, don't call me n***a. I ain't your n***a."
In the approximately 23-minute long video, the 30-year veteran was also caught using excessive force to subdue Robinson. Due to the vulgar nature of Garcia's conduct, the department decided to part ways with the officer, who spent 11 years on the force prior to this incident.
"Indefinitely suspending the officer was the only remedy to this particular situation," San Antonio police Chief William McManus said.
"There were maybe 12 to 15 folks that met us up in the conference room, and I answered questions about it, told them what I did about it and at the end of the day, I hope they were satisfied," McManus added. "We've got 2,347 police officers in this department, and when one of them makes that kind of mistake, it reflects poorly on the department, the department's culture, and we simply can't have that."
As for Robinson, he may be charged with criminal trespassing despite complying with police.
