A few months ago, we reported on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's desire to have Barack and Michelle Obama as guests at their much-anticipated wedding. At the time, the only major concern was whether or not President Donald Trump would throw a fit over the royal couple inviting U.S. officials (former or otherwise) without extending an invitation to him as well.

Well, the invitations have already gone out and unfortunately, the Obamas didn't make the cut. Don't worry, Trump has nothing to do with it! According to People, the reason behind the lack of an invite is simple: since Prince Harry is not likely to become king, it isn't necessary for political leaders to attend.

“It has been decided that an official list of political leaders — both U.K. and international — is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding. Her Majesty’s Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by The Royal Household,” noted a Kensington Palace spokesman.

The wedding will instead be more of a personal affair, with all attendees having a connection with both Markle and the prince. Harry definitely has a relationship with the Obamas, having bonded with the former POTUS at the Invictus Games as well as recently interviewing him at BBC.

Although the Obamas won't be at the wedding, the two couples will see each other soon enough.

“Both the couples look forward to seeing each other soon,” a royal source stated.

Perhaps the saddest part of all of this is that we won't get to see any of President Obama's dance moves at the royal reception. Definitely a big loss.

The royal couple also announced that although America's former first family won't be present, they will be inviting 1,200 members of the public to their wedding at Windsor Castle, including “young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities.” The total number of attendees will be 2,640.

The royal wedding will take place on May 19, 2018.
