So, it happened AGAIN. A white woman stole content from a black woman and called it her own.

Melania Trump is in the process of being dragged by the internet for scamming her latest speech from Michelle Obama. Despite blatant theft from Melania and her speech writers, the Trump campaign denies all allegations. Instead, they insist that Michelle Obama “didn’t invent the English language.”

While Trump’s camp plays dumb, the Internet will not let up.

I would love to write that Melania’s latest misstep put her husband’s campaign in jeopardy, but, of course, nothing can touch the Cheeto. Conservative pundits refuse to call Melania’s latest heist thievery. This intentional myopia exists for a two reasons. If Clinton takes the White House, the hope of gutting Obamacare is lost. Rallying behind Trump is the last hope Republicans have to mold America into what they want it to be. The other reason is that it’s easy to believe Melania was simply inspired by another black woman. White people seem to be inspired by black women all the time.

White America is built on the appropriation of black people.

I am amazed at the things black people continue to create. The music and art that comes from so many black people is simply magical. This beauty comes from the deepest places in our hearts. One would think that after 400 years of murder and rape, black people would be given the space to breathe and enjoy the things they created. But when someone gets their hands in the cookie jar, they can never stop.

The biggest lie white America has told is the unimportance of black culture. But the truth is, they attempt to recreate a narrative to fit themselves in it. White fashion magazines and musicians regularly discover parts of black culture, put a spin on it, and make loads money. What adds insult to injury are the awards they receive for creating something wholly unoriginal. But it does not stop there. White celebrities like Katy Perry and Kylie Jenner are praised for wearing traditionally black hairstyles, while black women are shamed for being ghetto and unsophisticated.

The lies white women tell can be very toxic to black people. From Rosewood to Emmett Till, the tears, lies, and words of white women have been used to further the agenda of white supremacy in America. Melania’s speech serves as a stepping stone for Trump, a man who wants to ban Muslims from entering a supposedly democratic country, to become one of the most powerful men in the world. The way in which the Trump campaign excites white supremacists is a clear sign of the future America black people will live in.

This is the second time this week video footage has caught a prominent white woman in a lie. Believing her innocence, despite evidence, is not shocking. The words and works of people of color are stolen so often it seems to be a trend ingrained in white culture. Melania may be an immigrant, but she effortlessly fits into white America. If the overlap in her speech was an accident, then laziness and negligence from her team is to blame. However, I find this hard to believe because no one from the Trump campaign is being fired. If this was in fact intentional theft, then it fits well into the American legacy of Columbusing the art that black people create.
