Back in the 1970s, 13.4 percent of San Francisco was Black. According to US census data, by 2010 that number had dropped to 3.9 percent.

Black artists in the 3.9 Collective in San Francisco are responding to the city’s significant decline in the African American community with visual art that celebrates the city’s vibrant history and helps provide perspective on the current exodus. Check out this video highlighting the Black history of San Francisco and their creative collective.
