Vivica A. Fox recently shut down rumors that she has beef with the Smiths following her remarks about Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s response to Will Smith‘s notorious slap at the Oscars in 2022.
This week the Cocktails with the Queens host was a guest on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live hosted by Andy Cohen. During her appearance, the producer asked permission if he could relay a “hot-button question” from a WWHL fan, which she approved. The viewer wanted to know, “If you have hope that you and your friend Jada-Pinkett Smith can reconcile one day, or do you think that isn’t in the cards?”
“Can I say, there’s no beef,” the Two Can Play That Game actor said. “I just said, ‘Due to the situation that happened, just take accountability so that everyone can then move forward.’ I love Jada, I love Will, I love their whole family. I don’t have beef with them.”

As most know by now, when Chris Rock was in the middle of presenting the Oscar for best documentary feature at the 2022 Oscars, he made a tasteless joke about Jada’s shaved head. He looked into the crowd and told her, “Jada, I love you. ‘G.I. Jane 2.’ Can’t wait to see it.” Will didn’t think the joke was funny after seeing his wife’s reaction since the reason behind her new look is alopecia, a disease that happens when the immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair loss. Will reacted by walking on stage and slapping the comedian.
This was a devasting blow to the night because it was a big night for Will. After all, many were hoping the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star was going to receive an academy award for his role in the movie King Richard. Following the eventful awards, Jada released an on-camera statement to disclose her feelings about the physical altercation on her Red Table Talk platform. Shortly after, Fox filled in as a guest co-host on The Wendy Williams Show while it was still a hot topic. She got emotional as she revealed her thoughts about the incident.
“This is going to be difficult for me. These are my peers. I’ve done a movie with both of them, Set It Off with Jada and Independence Day with Will Smith, which changed my life,” she started. “When I saw this video last night, it made me cry. I’ll be very honest with you guys. I really felt to be a partner to Will Smith, whose career basically to took a tumble that night. We were all rooting for Will Smith. We wanted him to win. Will Smith that night, as far as I was concerned, was going to be crowned this generation’s Sidney Poitier, which is a huge honor.”
She went on to explain that she felt Jada needed to take accountability for her part in the incident instead of shoving everything off on her husband who made the bold move, or what some might call an offensive mistake, for her.
“Will Smith was defending her honor, that’s the reason he walked on stage and slapped because he felt like his wife had been offended. So for me to see no accountability as a partner,” she said. “Also, let’s not forget, Chris Rock was assaulted. We cannot forget that for basically telling a joke that I really felt wasn’t that bad.”
This all took place over a year ago, and Fox is letting bygones be bygones as she has no hard feelings against the two and she said she believes they feel the same toward her. When asked by Cohen if the couple has “beef” with her, she responded, “Not that I know of.”
Neither Jada nor Will has responded publicly, so it seems fans interested in seeing the former Hollywood friends reunite will have to wait patiently.
