Footage of a black couple's arrest at a Waffle House for theft after they disputed their bill for a takeout order went viral and caused yet more anger at the once popular waffle franchise.

The arrest happened in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and is the latest in a series of wrongful and questionable arrests at Waffle House.

The Fort Walton Police Department recently released bodycam footage showing the arrested male being held at gunpoint by its officers in an attempt to "set the record straight," according to The New York Times. The Department claims officers on the scene “followed proper protocol,” and engaged in no misconduct whatsoever.

"Knowing what I know about the situation, I don't know that I would have been as calm as our police were," noted Fort Walton Beach Mayor Dick Rynearson. "It surprises me that we have an incident in our town. To the best of my knowledge, we just have not had racial issues. This is a strong community."

Waffle House chief executive Walter G. Ehmer personally called the woman involved to issue an apology, and the restaurant confirmed a full refund was issued to the couple, who never even received their food.

“While our review of the Fort Walton Beach, Florida, incident is continuing, we think both sides could have handled this situation better,” said Waffle House spokesman Pat Warner. “On our part, our employee could have done more to de-escalate the dispute before calling the police.”

David Johns, executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition, isn't here for any "both sides" rhetoric.

“This is blatant and continuous, and the company has to do something as a result from it,” Johns said. He is also calling for a boycott of the franchise.

Warner said all of the restaurant's employees will soon undergo “additional training” in customer service.
