Pamela Ramsey Taylor was "removed" from her job after calling First Lady Michelle Obama an ape in heels, or so we thought. In a racially charged Facebook post, Taylor wrote, "“It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing an Ape in heels." Apparently, Pam wasn't the only one thinking these thoughts. The mayor in Taylor's town, Mayor Beverly Whaling, also agreed when she commented on the Facebook post, "Just made my day Pam." Over 200,000 people signed a petition demanding the two women be removed from their positions. Whaling resigned but Taylor was simply "removed."

We have come to learn that "removed" simply means suspended, and after being suspended for six weeks, Taylor will return to work as Clay County Development Corporation's Director on December 23rd.

Clay County Development Corp. is a nonprofit that provides services to elderly and low-income families in Clay County. They are funded through state and federal funds along with local fees. Since they are receiving state funds, CCDC isn't out of hot water. The Governor's office could potentially cut off state funds. Governor Earl Ray Tomblin's office released a statement, "The State of West Virginia vehemently opposes any discriminatory and harassing sentiments, language or actions," his office stated. Due to her comments "we have been and continue to review those contracts to determine any alternatives the state might have," it said.
