Comedian and BBC radio host Danny Baker has been fired for a racist tweet comparing the newly born royal baby to a monkey.

Deadline reports Baker was terminated Wednesday for a tweet likening the royal baby to a chimpanzee. The tweet, according to the ousted BBC’s Radio Five Live host, was a joke about the Royals, not a racial slight against Meghan Markle. As the first biracial person in the royal family in years, Markle has been subjected to racism from British media and critics.

Baker's tweet, posted earlier this week, was "supposed to be a joke about Royals vs circus animals in posh clothes but interpreted as about monkeys & race, so rightly deleted," he said in a statement. "Royal watching not my forte."

On Thursday, the broadcaster said he made an "enormous mistake."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed to the world on Wednesday. Baker, who was with the BBC since the 1980s, did not take his firing lightly.

He claimed he didn't mean to call Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor a monkey. Although he apologized, he also took shots at those outraged over claims of racism. The 61-year-old said his firing was a “masterclass of pompous faux-gravity.”  Ultimately, he believed the broadcaster threw him "under the bus” to save face.

"This was a serious error of judgment and goes against the values we as a station aim to embody," the BBC said in a statement. "Danny's a brilliant broadcaster but will no longer be presenting a weekly show with us."

Since the union between Markle and Prince Harry, the actress has been inundated with racist comments.

Kensington Palace staff announced they will devote more resources to dealing with racial comments aimed at the Duchess of Sussex. There will also be an increased effort to block abusive social media accounts, according to CNN.
