Blavity Fam, we've lost another childhood icon.

All Nickelodeon fans remember turning on the TV and hearing the ever-familiar chant, "Nick Nick Nick Nick na Nick Nick Nick Nickelodeon!" Well, you may or may not have known the voice behind that jingle was a black man, Eugene Pitt.

Pitt passed away at the age of 80 on Friday, June 29, ComicBook.com reports. He recorded the legendary theme with his group, The Jive Five, in the 1980s. Pitt first became famous with his 1961 song, "My True Story."

The group posted the announcement of Pitt's passing on their Facebook page Friday:

Though the singer had been sick for some time, the cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Along with the famous jingle, Pitt and The Jive Five also provided jingles for the Kids Choice Awards, another Nickelodeon staple!

The network began using the popular and catchy "Nick Nick Nick … " theme in 1984 as part of their rebranding, which was hugely successful as we still remember the song accompanying Nickelodeon's splat logo to this day.
