Tarana Burke, the founder of the #MeToo movement, has shared her important message on many platforms from the Golden Globes to covers of magazines

At Variety's recent Power Of Women ceremony, Oscar-winner Viola Davis presented Burke with an award and referred to the activist as a "hero."  Davis has long been a supporter of the #MeToo movement and one of the first to donate to the #MeToo fund, contributing over $100,000.

Once Burke took the stage, she made sure to remind us that even though she's been in some glamorous rooms, she's still down to earth!

"If there's any other evidence that I'm a regular degular schmegular girl from the Bronx … it's right there."

Cardi B fans will immediately recognize that reference, as the chart-topping rapper first coined the phrase during her time on Love & Hip Hop

Burke is certainly using her voice and newfound notoriety to push the #MeToo agenda beyond being "just a moment."

“In the first 24 hours of #MeToo going viral, just on Facebook there were 12 million engaged with the hashtag,” said Burke during an interview with Variety. “If, in this country, we had an outbreak of some communicable disease that 12 million people got in a 24-hour time period, we would be focused solely on the cure. That’s the difference in how people think about the disease of sexual violence.”
