Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams has been open about her struggle with depression. When she was in her teens, Williams struggled with the symptoms of depression but wasn’t sure what to call it. She was a part of one of the most celebrated groups of all time – nothing to be sad about – and never thought to associate her feelings with depression but instead attributed them to lethargy. Today, according to TMZ, Williams has checked herself into a mental health facility.

Williams spoke on dealing with depression in her teenage years in the clip below:

Having been suicidal in her younger years, Williams takes her mental health very seriously. By checking herself into the facility, Williams hopes to find help in her battle with depression.

“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing,” Williams said in a statement. “Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need.”
