Getting arrested is never a good look, but when you look good while getting arrested, you might mess around and become a social media phenomenon.
Texas A&M University-Commerce student Marshala Perkins was arrested on February 6 while on her way to a party reports the Star-Telegram. When an officer stopped the 19-year-old and ran her license and registration, the officer claimed to smell marijuana. Her report came back clean. He then asked to search her car, eventually booking her for two grams of weed. She was booked at the Hunt County Jail that night and released the next morning.
Perkins just so happened to have a freshly beat face at the time as she'd just finished doing a makeup tutorial on Facebook Live.
“I was actually bored that night,” the Dallas native told the Star-Telegram. “I was just going to go out with my friends looking the way I was looking.”
Perkins admitted she was initially embarrassed when her mugshot was posted to the Greenville Police Department's Facebook page.
“People were sending it to me asking, ‘Is this you?’ At the time I was embarrassed, so I was like, ‘Nah, I don’t know who that is,'" Perkins said.
The embarrassment would fade to humor when someone took the time to submit her mugshot to the Mugshot Baes Twitter account. The picture made its rounds across the social platform in July when a user commented, "we need a tutorial":

“I really thought it was funny because I know, with those pages, somebody has to submit it,” the aspiring makeup artist told the Star-Telegraph. “I’m thinking, ‘Who over here is thinking I’m cute enough to be on this page?’"
“I was still kind of embarrassed about it because it was something I didn’t want people to know," she continued. "But then when I started reading the comments, I was like, besides me being in jail, people are really noticing my talent and what I can do."
That embarrassment has now birthed hundreds of new followers to both Perkins' YouTube Channel and her new Instagram page dedicated to tutorials.
In one of the videos, Perkins even breaks down the products used in her mugshot. We're rooting for you, sis!
