Midterm elections are more than just voting for candidates; elections are a time to vote on state ballot initiatives that focus on a particular issue. This year's elections are especially important, because of the amount of major issues you can potentially vote for or against.

For instance, your state may be voting on the legalization of marijuana. If you live in the Midwest, you could be voting on issues that impact prison reform, via legislation that includes direct input from the Ohio Student Association (OSA). Additionally, a vote for a Democratic candidate for governor could mean a vote for proposed affordable health care. Other important matters that specifically affect the Black community, like more protections against the adverse impact of gentrification and support for fair voter rights, may also be included on the ballot in your state.
