Witnessing the outcome of the 2024 election for Black women across America is seeing what they face day in and day out on a larger scale, and it’s disheartening.

The morning after the presidential election ended and resulted in Donald Trump defeating Kamala Harris was PTSD for African American women. To see someone severely less qualified who also is a racist, accused sexual predator, and misogynist, among other things, become the 47th President of the United States is similar to a common theme discussed in the Black community. There is a saying that Black people “must work twice as hard just to get half of” what white people and other financially set others have.

Although a college graduate, he doesn’t have nearly the professional experience in political and government affairs as Harris but is somehow deemed more capable of running the country. Additionally, former President Trump’s 2016-2020 term was filled was mayhem and confusion. He was impeached twice – first for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress and again for inciting the January 6 insurrection. He also refused to accept the results of the 2020 election, which he lost, faced 86 felony charges across four criminal cases, and was convicted on 34 counts.

Throughout Harris’ campaign trail, she was constantly critiqued and questioned about her policies which she openly spoke on. According to Essence, she outlined targeted measures to support the middle class, such as $25,000 in down payment aid for first-time homebuyers. The attorney also acknowledged the unique needs of Black and Latino men, proposing $20,000 in forgivable loans for entrepreneurs from these communities to launch their businesses. Additionally, she committed to being a strong advocate for reproductive rights. In contrast, Trump barely had structured plans of his own, something very evident during their debate.

Sticking to his game like glue, Trump also called her “lazy,” said she recently started being Black at the 2024 NABJ Convention, accused her of attending “parties” when she attended Black cultural and NPHC Greek events and more.

Women, including celebrities, have to turn to different social media platforms to express not only how proud they are of Harris but also how relatable her journey in this process is to them.

Given the outcome, the sky is the limit in America for white males with criminal backgrounds like Trump.
