The latest TV spot for Marvel’s Eternals has hit the airwaves, giving us a first look at Marvel’s first same-sex couple.

The commercial shows Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), his husband (Haaz Sleiman) and their child meeting fellow Eternals Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Ikaris (Richard Madden).

Marvel has hinted at LGBTQ visibility recently. The most overt showing for LGBTQ characters has been in the Disney+ series Loki, in which the titular character confirms that he is canonically queer in the MCU (similar to how he’s portrayed in the comics). Phastos, who has superhuman strength, speed, regeneration, and the power of flight and teleportation, is another character in the MCU canon that firmly asserts the existence and importance of queer characters in the franchise.

Sleiman told New Now Next in 2020 how his and Henry’s roles are changing Marvel in terms of representation, including a scene involving their characters sharing a kiss on screen.

“It’s a beautiful, very moving kiss,” he said. “Everyone cried on set. For me, it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be.”

“Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty in this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point,” he said. “We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious. We forget to connect on that human part.”

Directed by Chloe Zhao, Eternals will star Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Kumail Nanjiani, Don Lee, Kit Harrington and Barry Keoghan as mystical beings who come to earth to contend with the equally powerful Deviants.

The film will open in theaters Nov. 5.
